Bird tour Gambia and Senegal special target birding 21 days full board.

Route and Travel Options

The journey begins with an exploration of the vibrant landscapes of The Gambia, a country renowned for its rich birdlife and diverse habitats. Here, we delve into wetlands, forests, and riverbanks, home to a wide array of native and migratory bird species.

From The Gambia, we venture into the stunning Niokolo Koba National Park in Senegal, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of West Africa's most biodiverse regions. This park not only boasts an abundance of bird species but also offers opportunities to observe other fascinating wildlife, such as antelopes and the elusive African leopard.

After a few days in this region, once our target species have been photographed, we continue toward the border with Mauritania. This rarely visited area is a treasure trove of spectacular bird species that are rare or hard to find elsewhere. Its pristine landscapes and unique photography opportunities make it a must-visit for those seeking exclusive images and unforgettable experiences.

How Do We Proceed?

The process begins with your point of contact. Once you, as a photographer, reach out to me, I would appreciate receiving a list of the specific bird species you wish to photograph. The more detailed your wishes, the more targeted I can be in my approach.

Step 1: Contact and Inventory of Target Species Upon receiving your list of target species, I immediately start gathering current information. I utilize my extensive network of local guides, ornithologists, and nature experts in both Gambia and Senegal to determine where your desired bird species have recently been observed. This can take a few days, as I aim to obtain accurate and up-to-date data to maximize your chances of successful observations and photographs.

Step 2: Analysis and Confirmation The observations are carefully analyzed. I take into account factors such as recent migration patterns, seasonal influences, weather conditions, and the accessibility of the locations. If there are any uncertainties, I remain in contact with my sources to confirm the information. This meticulous approach ensures that the travel itinerary is not only effective but also practically feasible.

Step 3: Design of the Travel Itinerary Based on the collected data, I create a travel itinerary that is fully tailored to your wishes and target species. The itinerary includes details on:

  • Locations: Specific places where the target species are likely to be found.

  • Timings: The best times of the day to photograph these species.

  • Flexibility: Options to adjust the itinerary if unique opportunities arise.

  • Logistics: Practical information about transportation, accommodations, and required equipment.

Step 4: Consultation and Adjustments Once the itinerary is ready, I send it to you. We discuss the possibilities and any adjustments needed to meet your specific wishes. If there is room for additional species or locations, these can be incorporated into the planning. Step 5: Ready for Departure With a fully tailored and well-thought-out travel itinerary, you are ready to embark on your journey. I remain available for support during your trip, ensuring you always have access to current information or adjustments if necessary.

Creating a Travel Itinerary

Crafting a travel itinerary for a specialized tour like this presents an exciting challenge, involving multiple factors. The selection of bird species that you, as a photographer, wish to capture is a crucial starting point. This choice is heavily dependent on the season: are you visiting the area during the rainy season or the dry season?
